halley vi research station, brunt ice shelf, antarctica

The Architect, Hugh Broughton and Main Contractor, Morrison’s, were looking for an aluminium ceiling suspended above the open plan social area for the central module, at the hub of the station.
It is circular on plan, with a large tubular light well at its centre.
The ceiling panels radiated from the central light well, incorporating recessed light fittings and detectors. There was very little tolerance, and it was important that the intricate layout of panels fitted together snugly, the entire ceiling was constructed on the shop floor for approval before despatching to the shippers.
